Restoring your site from a backup

Last updated 14 July 2026

How to roll your site back to an earlier day, what a restore replaces, and how to avoid losing recent orders.

If something has gone wrong, a restore puts your site back to how it was on a chosen day.

How to restore

  1. Go to Backups in your panel.
  2. Find the backup from the day you want. Choose the last day you are certain the site was fine.
  3. Choose Restore.
  4. Confirm. We put the files and the database back as they were.
  5. Clear the page cache and check the site.

How long it takes depends on the size of the site, but it is usually minutes rather than hours.

Read this before you restore a shop

A restore replaces your current data with the older data. On a shop or a busy site, that means anything that happened after the backup was taken will be gone: orders, customer accounts, comments, form submissions, new posts.

If you have taken orders since the backup was made:

  1. Download a backup of the current, broken state first. That preserves the recent orders, even if the site is misbehaving.
  2. Then restore.
  3. Then email [email protected] if you need help reconciling the orders that fell between the two.

Never restore over a live shop without doing step one.

Restoring just part of it

Often you do not need a full restore. If a single plugin broke the site, deactivating it fixes it without losing a day of orders. If one file is wrong, replace that file. A full restore is the blunt instrument. Reach for the smaller tool first.

Restoring onto staging instead

On Pro and above, restore into your staging environment first if you are unsure. You can then look at the restored copy, confirm it is the version you wanted, and push it live deliberately.

How far back can I go?

As far as your plan's backup history: 7 days on Starter, 14 on Pro, 30 on Premium and Platinum.

If you cannot restore it yourself

Email [email protected]. If your site is down, we answer as fast as humanly possible, at any hour.

Still stuck?

The assistant in your control panel can see your actual account and answer about your sites, your plan and your usage. For anything else, email [email protected] and a person will answer.
